In this edition of “The Everyone’s Favorite Goalie” watch (insert overly dramatic TV news graphic here), news out of Wilkes-Barre this morning is that John Curry is on his way to Pittsburgh, where he will back up Dany “Still Can’t Find Anyone Who Can Pronounce His Last Name” Sabourin.
This is the first regular season call-up for Everyone’s Favorite Goalie. He spent the pre-season with Pittsburgh, and technically was on the roster when they played their first two regular season games in Europe, but did not dress.
The Penguins take on the Minnesota Wild tonight at 7pm on Versus. No word yet as to when the Curry 36 Pittsburgh Penguins jerseys become available on NHL.com (just kidding.)
This is awesome news… I’m gonna post something about this over at my site too! I still can’t believe that some of my friends doubted his ability. After his incredible sophomore year, I thought he was a rock.
Can’t wait to see him in action in the bigs! I’ll have to watch the Penguins schedule now…
Well, it all depends on Fleury’s injury…most likely, he will get sent back down to Wilkes-Barre once Fleury comes back, and even when he’s in Pittsburgh, he’ll be on the bench unless Sabourin really stinks (and if he keeps coming out to play the puck like he did last night, who knows.)
You’re probably right.. I was caught up in the moment :-P. I hope Curry does get a shot though. Seems like he can’t catch a break right now after last year’s awesome season.
