Tonight, I Venture Into Dangerous Territory: Conte Forum

I am a glutton for punishment. Last year, the partner-in-crime and I thought it would be a great idea to venture out to UMass Amherst to see the Boston University men’s hockey team face off against the Minutemen.  We wore our BU jerseys and all, and I was nearly jumped on my way to the ladies room.

Well, this year, the partner-in-crime and I have decided to join a few colleagues of mine at tonight’s BU – BC matchup at Conte Forum, one of the few Hockey East arenas that I haven’t been to at this point.  Heaven help us.

How Not to Panic When Your Favorite Team Drops Three of Four

‘Cause you’re hot then you’re cold

You’re yes then you’re no

You’re in then you’re out

You’re up than you’re down

You’re wrong when it’s right

It’s black when it’s white

-Katy Perry’s Hot n’ Cold

This song perfectly represents the past two weeks in Boston University hockey. I now understand why the fiance and I heard it four times while running errands before Saturday evening’s hockey game against the University of Vermont. And so, this morning, when the partner-in-crime asked if I wanted the sports section of the Boston Globe, I uncharacteristically replied, “No. The key to not panicking as a sports fan is not to acknowledge what happened.” Continue reading

Calling Out the Superfans and the Tsongas Arena Shopping Cart

Oh, the Superfans.

Oh, the Superfans.

They wear mustard colored cheap t-shirts with burgundy writing, either given out or sold by their bookstore.  Maybe 2% of them own hockey jerseys.  And if the hockey team is playing at the same time as their football or basketball team, they magically dissapear.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Boston College Superfans.

The Superfans, or Stuperfans, or whatever you wish to refer to them as, are oft-complained about.  I really don’t dislike them, I’m just amazed at their…indifference? Lack of jerseys? Bandwagon jumping? Pep band’s rendition of Ridin’ Dirty by Chamillionaire? (You have not lived until you’ve heard a tuba blast out the first few lines of that song.  Really.  It’s made my Beanpot the last two years.)

Someone Decided That I May In Fact Be A Good Writer

A bit of self promotion for a moment:  I have recently become a lacrosse writer for Examiner Boston, a growing online news page.  Everyone jump up and do a happy dance with me!

So in addition to maintaining this blog (which I am trying to do more things with in the coming weeks, like move to an actual factual page of its own), I will also be writing at least three articles a week for the Examiner.  You’ll be able to find my articles here.  I’ll also add this link to the blogroll on the side of the page.
